Located
in the Simi Valley area of Southern California, I strive to produce truly
versatile Weimaraners that make wonderful, healthy companions. Reading through
this page and traversing the links above you can see my current dogs and their
accomplishments to date, plus other useful information on the breed and dogs in
general.

Weimaraners are very active dogs, both physically and mentally. As such, they require quite a bit of physical exercise and mental stimulation. If either requirement is not adequately met, the dog will find his or her own ways to meet them. Physical exercise alone, while vitally necessary, will still leave the Weimaraner with mental energy to burn. Guaranteed, you will not like their ways of tapping off that energy! (They can develop into award winning diggers, barkers and/or chewers). So, keep their minds occupied with learning new things, and give them a job to do. Remember, a tired dog is a good dog!
Early socialization is vital
in developing a
Weimaraner with a confident, happy attitude. Experience has shown me that this is a breed that generally
finds it very difficult, if not impossible, to overcome a lack of proper early
socialization. Because of this, I strongly recommend a Puppy Kindergarten or
Preschool class by the time a puppy is 8 to 12 weeks of age. Weims develop
into strong willed, persistent dogs that will take over your household if you
let them. Limits must be set from the beginning, and dogs must be taught to
respect them. So, follow Puppy Class with Obedience Class to keep the momentum
going. Training deepens the bond between you and your dog, and teaches you to
communicate well with each other. Consequently, the benefits are both twofold
and long-lived. No matter what anyone tells you, don't worry about obedience
training a show prospect puppy! Believe me, if your Weimaraner is smart enough
to learn to sit when you tell him, he is also smart enough to learn to stand
when you tell him! All of my own dogs plus those of my students have certainly
have proven this to be true over and over again!
My dogs here at Star are fed a Biologically Appropriate Raw Food Diet (BARF diet), and special consideration is given to those puppy inquiries that are willing to commit to feeding the BARF diet to their pups. I switched my dogs to a raw diet over 11 years ago, and the results I got, both immediately and long term, serve only to reinforce that I made the right choice. The BARF diet was developed by Australian Veterinarian, Dr. Ian Billinghurst. His books, "Give Your Dog a Bone" and "Grow Your Pups With Bones" are full of easy to understand information on the subject, and as such are recommended reading. There are a number of raw diet proponents out there, each with their own slightly modified version of the same basic concepts. Kymythy Schultze and Wendy Volhard are some others who also have books on their own recommended diets. I settled on Billinghurst through experience of what seemed to work best for my dogs. I would recommend that you educate yourself on the subject and make your own decisions based both on that research, and on the results you get with your dogs. Most Veterinarians are generally not well educated on raw diets and are thus resistant to the idea. Much of their nutritional education comes from research sponsored by the big dog food companies who, obviously, have their own interests at heart. More information on raw feeding in general, and the BARF diet specifically, is available through my Links Page, accessible through the Links button at the top of this page.
Star Weimaraners has puppies available only occasionally, and they are very selectively placed. All puppies are sold under written contract, and on limited registration only. (Limited registration makes any offspring of the dog ineligible for any registration papers). Vaccination is given on a modified, slower schedule, and health guarantees are null and void if vaccine schedule is not followed. Special consideration is given to those puppy inquiries that are willing to commit to feeding a raw diet. (For more information on raw diets, see the paragraph above and travel the appropriate links on my links page). All puppy inquiries begin with a questionnaire to be filled out and returned to me. This process helps me to see what potential owners are looking for in a pup, helps potential buyers see what I am looking for in homes, and helps me match potential homes with just the right puppy.
