My first
Weimaraner "Star" and my first
show dog, Blis taught me a lot. She was completely owner handled to all wins
and titles. She finished her Championship, including a 5 point supported entry
major, and in 1991 earned the WCA's Dual Futurity Award by placing in both her Field and Show Futurities. Shown as a Special on a
very limited basis, she earned multiple BOB over Top Ten ranked specials,
including a Best in Specialty Show under a breeder judge! She earned a perfect 200 score
in Obedience in 1997 (while earning her second Open leg), making her the first Weim to do so in over 17 years
- and there hasn't
been another one since! Her RD came at 10 years old, just for fun. Right up to
the end, she
still liked to do the occasional retrieve on the flat or recall exercise, just
to show the "youngers" that she
knew it first! She was full of heart
and soul, and she completely
sold me on this breed. She taught me patience, persistence and perseverance. Now
I must exercise those virtues till the day comes that we are reunited at the
Rainbow Bridge. Until
then, I picture her running, jumping, hunting and retrieving....all with no more of the pain
of her arthritis to slow her down. And I can hear her barking at God in her own
insistent way, until He gives in and gives her
whatever she wants!
